Happy Earth Day! Earth Day is always a good time of year: flowers are blooming, and birds are chirping as the weather gets warmer. The Earth is so beautiful, especially this time of year. That is why we must strive to take care of it. On my drive home, I noticed loads and loads of trash just laying in the ditch on the side of the road. It amazes me how people take for granted their beautiful surroundings and are always in a hurry to rid of their waste whichever way is quickest. Because of this, I challenge you to do something good for the Earth today (and any time you think about it). I picked up trash in my apartment complex parking lot today to try and help out. Now I notice the blooming flowers, not the candy wrapper stuck on the stem. Every little bit counts. Make every day Earth Day.

Carol's Birthday
Carols birthday was Saturday! She turned 22, and is still as obnoxious as ever. Her boyfriend decided to give her gifts that were hidden in a box full of small pieces of confetti. After she had opened her gifts, she thought it would be funny to throw the confetti all over the front patio and driveway... and my mom. Towards the end of the video, you can see the confetti fight that ensued between my sister and my mom. Just another day at the DeWitt family residence. :)
Hope you had a great birthday Carol (and sorry grandma that Cody took video of you while you were picking your nose)!

So much for the snow...
It snowed hard for half the day yesterday, but it was the wet slushy snow. We probably got 4 inches total, but it was so warm outside that it was all melted by the time I got off of work. We got the moisture we needed, and now the flowers can bloom.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow...
Forecast for tonight: 6-12"
I am hoping there is a lot of snow tonight, maybe I will get a snow day from work. *grin*The Denver Federal Center and my building actually have snow days the same time as schools in the area. The designers had a meeting yesterday where we were told we are supposed to telecommute 1 day a week, starting as soon as possible. So of course everyone decided to telecommute tomorrow so they wouldn't have to deal with all of the snow. I, however, am not eligible to telecommute (because I am technically an intern) so all I can do is pray for a snow day! I'll keep you posted (the whole 3 readers i have). :)

Cody at Work
One of Codys coworkers at the Budweiser Events Center took a camera to work one day and got great pictures of what they do. For those who don't know, Cody is a high steel rigger, which means he walks around on I-beams (with a harness on) so he can hang motors that will hold up truss for lighting. Here is Cody leaving the catwalk and stepping on an I-beam.
Here he is trying to climb back to the catwalk, he had just finished hanging a point (pulling up a 5 foot piece of steel cable with 2 shackles and hanging it from the I-beam). The motor connects to the shackles by a long piece of chain. Notice the chairs far below him. He is reallllly high up in the air, balancing.
Here he is trying to hang a point (the canvas bag, the steel cable, and the shackles). Notice he never looks happy, he says because he is always almost going to fall off because his safety equipment gets in the way. They are 40 feet in the air, but it looks a lot higher than that.

Here is what it look like when he looks down. Thats a long fall! I can't ever watch him rig because he is just walking around on a bunch of balancing beams carrying heavy equipment, but he loves it!
