Pier Caps
Lately at work, I have been inspecting rebar and forms for our pier caps. These are what go on top of the columns, and the girders will be placed on the pier caps so we can build the bridge deck. It may not look to high up in the air, but it is over 35 feet high! The ladder I was climbing was actually two tall ladders connected. It wasn't tied off to anything, and either was I. Being scared of heights, this was a new challenge for me.
I needed to climb over the forms once I reached the top of the ladder so I could look inside and check the rebar for proper clearance and spacing.
Once up there, I did not let go of a railing once. But it has definitely helped me start getting over my fear of heights. I like this picture because you can tell where the bridge will go. In the far right and back, there is the abutment cap, and then the columns in front of it, and then where I am standing (on more columns) in the very front. Slowly but surely, this bridge is making progress!Talon Trouble
So it finally happened, the Talon I have had since highschool died. :( Cody was driving home from work a week or so ago, he was going 65 mph on the highway, and he said all of a sudden it just died. He had to try and steer it off the highway (with no power and it is AWD) during rush hour. He somehow made it to a parking lot. Once it was towed to our mechanic, we learned the next day that the timing belt had jumped just a little bit, but it was enough to throw the pistons into the valves in cylinders 1 and 4. So, no more Talon. It's a bummer too, because those cars are rare, and even with it being as old as it is, I could have gotten $5000 for it on the street. Oh well, too late now. We ended up selling it to a junkyard for a few hundred dollars. For the moment, I drove the Honda to Cody and he is now driving that every day. I, on the other hand, only have my government vehicle to get to and from work. I have no vehicle to run errands in, but I will make it work for now. We are working on saving up for a new car. It is definitely a buyers market right now, so maybe we can find some good deals.
