4th of July

For the 4th, Cody drove out to Vegas to pick me up so we could take a much needed road trip to Las Cruces. We left on Wednesday at 3:30 pm (after I got off work) for what should have been an 11 hour drive. Of course, we got stuck in construction traffic, and 160 miles into the trip we got a flat in the middle of nowhere.

Cody had to change the tire 6" from traffic coming from both directions going 65+ mph. I was standing in front of him to warn traffic he was there so he wouldn't get hit. From that point on, we had to go 60 mph because of the spare tire. We lost so much time, we decided to stay the night in Phoenix and just get new tires in the morning. We eventually made it to Las Cruces Thursday evening, and started the trip with a visit to Burger Time for some rolled tacos and cheese fries smothered in green chiles! Yummy

We ate tons of mexican food, and shot off fireworks on the 4th.

Poor Joey (my mother-in-laws' cute little boston terrier) needed consoling pretty much all evening, he was scared of the fireworks!

Her is Aunt Judy and her friend, Gene. We were all hanging out watching the chaos at the park unfold. My mother and father-in-laws' backyard faces the park where the city fireworks are shot off, and it was absolutely packed.

Hanging out in the backyard by the fire after eating hamburgers and hotdogs.

Some of the Las Cruces fireworks. I actually went up on the roof this year to watch the fireworks (with a little persuasion from Cody), and I am so glad I did! That was an awesome view!

We had some mortars that were really loud................. poor Joey!

*giggle* *giggle* :) This is what the fourth of July is all about. We had to fill out a permit to buy these, but the permit was in a different city where these fireworks are legal. Cody didn't even sign the permit or give them the full address, and we still somehow got them. These were louder and better fireworks than mortars we have bought previously. This year, we figured we only get to blow our money up once a year, so why not do it right?!

Cody and Kyle got a system going where they lit off two mortars at the same time, here are some green and white ones.

Sorry for the blurriness, my camera doesn't make a very good video camera.

Eventually, we had to leave. I had to take an airplane home, and Cody had to drive to Denver. On the way to the El Paso, TX airport, we drove within half a mile of Juarez, Mexico. I saw the Rio Grande river, for some reason I didn't get it it one photo. You can definitely see the difference, the homes over there are shacks. There have already been over 800 murders there this year alone!
I made it home safely, and so did Cody. We had a great time in Las Cruces (as always). We loved the newest member of the Doss family (Joey, the boston terrier), and were so happy we have kept the annual 4th of July celebration in Las Cruces going!
